MILES.STERNFELD

About Miles.
Welcome to my website! My name is Miles Sternfeld and I'm a New York City-based director. I am passionate about revitalizing seminal works from both the musical theatre and classical theatre canons to provide audiences with experiences that are visceral, challenging, and deeply resonant.
Most recently, I interned with Jamie Lloyd on the Broadway revival of Sunset Blvd and directed Broken Thread at the 14th St. Y. I am currently completing my MFA in Directing at Columbia University School of the Arts under the esteemed mentorship of Anne Bogart, Brian Kulick, and Katie Mitchell. Throughout my time at Columbia, I have directed re-conceptualized productions of Sweeney Todd by Stephen Sondheim & Hugh Wheeler, Next to Normal by Tom Kitt & Brian Yorkey, The Seagull, and Romeo & Juliet, alongside new works Rot by Aditya Lal Chada and Timmy by Megan Rivkin. You can view more of my work on my projects page.
For the last ten years, I built and led New City Music Theatre, a professional theatre company devoted to bold, challenging musical theatre productions while fostering education opportunities for the next generation. Our production of Jane Eyre garnered recognition with a Superior Direction Achievement Award from the Cleveland Critics’ Circle, a collaborative effort with Olivier Award Winner John Caird and Tony nominee Paul Gordon. Noteworthy directorial credits at NCMT include leading performances by actors such as Alice Ripley, Tony Yazbeck, Liz Callaway, Bonnie Milligan, Nick Blaemire, and Adrienne Warren in productions like Into The Woods, Songs for a New World, Aida, Pete(HER)Pan, and The Who’s Tommy.
In addition to my work as a director, I have had the privilege to contribute as a production assistant to several commercial productions, including the pre-Broadway presentation of Finding Neverland at the American Repertory Theatre, Fiddler On The Roof (in Yiddish) at the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene, and The Great Society at Lincoln Center Theatre.
In 2016, I created a successful education program called "Werk With Bway," which provided over 250 emerging artists from around the world the opportunity to study under working Broadway professionals in NYC. The program offered weeklong training intensives primarily focused on audition and college audition preparation, where students trained with actors, music directors, choreographers, and casting directors to hone their skills and gain exposure to more professional career opportunities.
I am a proud member of SDC, as well as an alumnus of Point Park University's Musical Theatre Conservatory and Fordham University at Lincoln Center. I hold a BS in Business Administration and am in my third and final year of studies a Columbia University, pursuing my MFA in Directing under the mentorship of Anne Bogart and Brian Kulick.
My artistic endeavors gravitate towards work that is cathartic and visceral, delving into the core of human experiences, particularly those surrounding trauma, abuse, and empowerment. I am deeply committed to creating work that is challenging, innovative, and of the highest quality while being as clear, honest, and impactful as possible. I hold in high regard the values of ambition, respect, and a profound dedication to the artistic process.
