ABOUT ME

Miles Sternfeld is a New York City–based director and artistic producer known for telling traditional stories in nontraditional ways. His work radically reimagines iconic texts through contemporary lenses to reveal deeper truths about today’s culture. He creates theatre that is emotionally charged, visually striking, and unafraid to ask the questions we’ve long avoided.

Most recently, Miles directed a sold-out, site-specific immersive production of Into the Woods on a private campground, featuring newly commissioned acoustic folk orchestrations with his independent company, Sternfeld Studio. The sold-out production was featured in Time Out New York and garnered over half a million views on TikTok. He will next direct Neighbor Play by Megan Rivkin at Stage Time Studios.

Previously, Miles assisted Jamie Lloyd on the Tony Award–winning Broadway revival of Sunset Blvd and Lorin Latarro on the new musical Joy. He holds an MFA in Directing from Columbia University’s School of the Arts, where he trained under Anne Bogart, Brian Kulick, and Katie Mitchell. At Columbia, he directed reconceptualized productions of Sweeney Todd (as a true-crime investigation set in 1980s America), Next to Normal (told through 4D audio inside Diana’s mind), The Seagull, and Romeo & Julietalongside new works Rot by Aditya Lal Chada and Timmy by Megan Rivkin.

Before studying at Columbia, Miles founded and led Cleveland Musical Theatre for nearly a decade – the only Equity musical theatre company in Cleveland devoted to reimagining beloved musicals while fostering education opportunities for the next generation. There, he spearheaded the redevelopment of the musical Jane Eyre with John Caird and Paul Gordon, earning the Cleveland Critics’ Circle Superior Achievement Award in Direction. Other credits credits include Into the Woods at Town Hall, Songs for a New World at Radial Park, Aida, Pete(HER)Pan, and The Who’s Tommy, featuring Broadway stars such as Betsy Wolfe, Tony Yazbeck, Liz Callaway, Bonnie Milligan, and Adrienne Warren.

Additional credits include contributions to Finding Neverland at the American Repertory Theatre, Fiddler On The Roof (in Yiddish) at the National Yiddish Theatre, and The Great Society at Lincoln Center Theatre.

Miles is the creator of Werk With Bway, a nationally recognized musical theatre training program that connected emerging performers with Broadway professionals. The program helped hundreds of students sharpen their craft, expand their networks, and step confidently into professional careers.

I am a proud member of SDC and an alumnus of Point Park University’s Musical Theatre Conservatory and Fordham University at Lincoln Center. I hold a BS in Business Administration and an MFA in Directing from Columbia University.
